Philae’s First Look After A Bouncy Landing
The Philae lander had a tough time landing on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko – harpoons meant to anchor the lander to the comet surface failed to fire, as well as the small thruster that was to counter-act any rebound from the 1 meter/sec landing.
Philae bounced, twice…

It was tense for a while, as communications with the lander were temporarily lost – it was not certain if the lander had drifted away from the comet. Apparently, the lander did indeed bounce 1 km off the surface of the comet, landing 2 hours later – at an as of yet undetermined location on the surface of the comet.
