LASER Pointer Awareness
LASER pointers are INCREDIBLY useful to astronomers for pointing out objects in the night sky. LASERS are also VERY F!*ing bright, and are NOT toys (except indoors, with cats).
Please (please please PLEASE!) use LASER pointers responsibly:
1) Do NOT shine them into eyes (humans or cats, or ANY eyes)
2) Do NOT shine them towards ANY aircraft.
3) If you see someone doing either, INSIST that they stop.
I really want to be able to keep using LASER pointers for nighttime Astronomy. I’d rather the government NOT pass a law banning their use!
I’m calling for ALL US astronomy clubs, and astronomy-minded individuals to start a nationwide awareness campaign: Contact government officials, local newspapers, schools, etc.
I can create the WordPress blog site 🙂
nice article
I agree , We shouldnt have to worry about tools we use when viewing the night sky. I am also a fellow astronomer and use a laser pointer to teach the younger generation about constellations, etc. How can the Government even think about taking away one of the most useful tools for teaching. Bob I am part of an astronomy club here in Belleville Ontario Canada. We are having a star party called fall n stars in sept that I will ensure we cover this topic. Clear skys, Mike
