I awoke to overcast skies, and was worried that I would not be able to use my scopes at today’s Outreach event. I setup around 9:30 AM, and by that time it was partly cloudy – I immediately had a couple folks ask if they could look thru my scopes. 🙂 I had a light but fairly steady stream of people the entire time I was setup at the beach.
Today’s topic was “The Sun;” I had put together a book with some awesome pictures from Alan Friedman, and recent NASA SOHO and SDO photos.I also showed a video of the 2012 Venus Transit taken from the SDO.
Dave Bailey, a fellow member of the Warren Astronomical Society showed up and chatted with several of folks. Thanks Dave!
20 minutes before I packed up, I went up into the market area and turned my P.T. Barnam on and told folks there I had telescopes down at the beach, and got a few more observers.
All told, it was pretty successful; I think I need to get/make three of those foldable signs and put one up in the market, one on the corner, and one in the park.
