Early morning on Sunday July 15th, there will be a conjunction occurring at about 4:00 AM. The Pleiades Star Cluster, better known as “The Seven Sisters” will be slightly above the planets Jupiter and Venus, and a waning crescent Moon, and the Red Giant star Aldebaran in the Constellation Taurus.
Conjunctions occur when two (or more) Solar System bodies, or one Solar System body and one more distant object such as a star, appear close to each other in the sky. In the case of July 15, 2012, the conjunction will occur at around 4:00 AM – with a waning crescent Moon very close to the planets Jupiter and Venus, and the star Aldebaran. The Pleiades open star cluster will be slightly above the rest in the sky. The conjunction will only last till sunrise; the Moon will not be nearly as close on the morning of the 16th.
